Terms & Conditions

These terms apply to every quotation, invoice and service provided by Dextel Electrical & Security Services (ABN 70 671 481 921, Lic. EC12377 / SA54405).

Last updated: 14 October 2026
1.

Validity of Quotation

This quotation is valid until the expiry date stated on the quotation. After that date, prices may be revised due to fluctuations in wholesale material costs.

2.

Ownership of Materials

All materials, parts, equipment and systems supplied and/or installed remain the property of Dextel Electrical & Security Services until full payment is made.

3.

Additional Work

Any work not included in this quotation will be charged additionally at Dextel Electrical & Security Services's standard rates and invoiced separately.

4.

Scope of Work and Variations

This quotation covers only the specific items, quantities, and layouts detailed within it. Any variation to the scope of works, including additional fixtures, relocation of items on site, or extra circuits, must be agreed in writing and will be billed separately at our standard rates.

4A.

Removal of Existing Equipment

Where the quotation includes removing existing equipment, such as an old alarm panel, detectors, sirens, cameras or light fittings, we remove it and leave any exposed cabling safe and the area tidy. Patching, filling, painting or other making good of holes, marks or faded areas left by the old equipment is not included unless the quotation says so.

5.

Deposit

A deposit of 20% of the quoted amount is payable on acceptance of any quotation over $1,000.00. The deposit forms part of the contract price and is not an additional charge. It is invoiced on acceptance and goes towards the equipment for your job, and the balance is invoiced on completion with the deposit shown as already paid.

If you cancel after accepting the quotation:

(a) at least seven (7) business days before the booked installation date, and before we have ordered equipment for your job, the deposit is refunded less an administration fee of $165.00 (including GST) for quoting and scheduling;

(b) after we have ordered equipment for your job, the deposit is kept towards that equipment. Equipment we can return to the supplier is returned, and you pay the restocking fee, freight and the administration fee. Equipment we cannot return is charged at the quoted price, less the deposit, and is yours once paid. Any part of the deposit not needed for these costs is refunded;

(c) less than seven (7) business days before the booked installation date, the deposit is not refunded, because the day is usually too late to fill with other work. Where equipment cannot be returned, (b) also applies.

If we cancel the job, or cannot complete it for reasons within our control, the deposit is refunded in full.

6.

Payment Terms

Payments are due as stated on each invoice. Unless otherwise stated, the balance of any job is payable in full on completion. If payment is not received by the due date, interest will accrue daily on the overdue amount at 10% per annum until the balance is paid in full. An administration fee of $55 (including GST) applies to the second and any subsequent overdue reminder. The client will be responsible for any legal or collection fees reasonably incurred by us in recovering outstanding amounts.

7.

Partial Payments

Partial payments against an invoice are not accepted unless agreed in advance and in writing. Any partial payment made without such agreement will not delay or reduce the application of late payment charges under Clause 6. This clause does not apply to the deposit under Clause 5 or to progress claims under Clause 10.

8.

Suspension of Services

Dextel Electrical & Security Services reserves the right to suspend or cease any ongoing or future services, including under separate contracts, in the event of non-payment, until the outstanding amount is settled in full.

9.

Disputed Invoices

Any dispute regarding an invoice must be raised in writing within 7 days of receipt, with full details of the dispute provided. Payment of any undisputed portion of the invoice must still be made within the original payment terms.

10.

Progress Claims

For contracts exceeding a 30-day period, Dextel Electrical & Security Services will issue progress claims for payment as set out in the invoice, with no more than one claim per calendar month.

11.

Site Access

Full unrestricted access must be provided to Dextel Electrical & Security Services to the area where the works are to be completed. We reserve the right to postpone the job or request reimbursement for lost time if an area is not made accessible.

Where the site requires an induction, safety paperwork or a site-specific permit before work can start, the time this takes is not included in the quotation unless stated, and is charged at our standard hourly rate.

12.

Hidden Structural Conditions

Pricing assumes standard timber framing, unobstructed roof spaces, and accessible wall cavities typical of standard residential construction. If unexpected concrete, structural steel obstacles, asbestos-containing materials, or major vermin or structural damage is encountered, work will stop immediately and a variation quote will be provided before work continues.

Before work starts, you must tell us about any asbestos or asbestos-containing material you know of at the site. If the site is a workplace with an asbestos register, you must give us access to it before work starts.

12A.

Concealed Services

Before work starts, you must tell us about any hidden pipes, cables or other services you know of where we will be drilling or running cables. We take reasonable care to detect concealed services, but we are not liable for damage to concealed services that you did not tell us about and that we could not reasonably have detected.

13.

Permits and Approvals

All permits, approvals and permissions from Council, landlords, Body Corporate, Heritage Commission or any similar governing body are the sole responsibility of the client to obtain. Dextel Electrical & Security Services accepts no responsibility for work carried out that does not meet the requirements of other parties.

14.

Damage or Loss of Materials

Any damage or loss (including theft) of materials, parts, equipment or systems remains the liability of the client after delivery to site, whether the items have been installed, are in storage or are in the process of being installed, unless the damage is caused by a representative of Dextel Electrical & Security Services.

15.

Storage

All storage and space requirements for materials, parts, equipment and systems are the responsibility of the client unless otherwise stated. Dextel Electrical & Security Services takes no responsibility for any goods after delivery to site. Replacement items will be reordered at the client's further cost.

16.

Termination by Client

If the client terminates the contract or denies further access to complete the job without reasonable cause, Dextel Electrical & Security Services is not liable to return to complete the work at a later date. The client may be charged for work completed to date or the full price of the job (at our sole discretion) if a substantial amount of work has been completed. For an additional charge, the client may request that Dextel Electrical & Security Services return at a more convenient time.

16A.

Postponing a Booked Job

You may move a booked installation date once, free of charge, if you give us at least three (3) business days’ notice. If you postpone with less notice than that, or after a free change has already been used, a rebooking fee of $330.00 (including GST) applies, because the day is usually too late to fill with other work. If we are able to fill the day with other work, we will waive the rebooking fee.

Missed appointments. If on the booked day no one is present at the agreed start time and we cannot get access, or the site is not ready for the work, the appointment is treated as postponed with less than three (3) business days’ notice and the rebooking fee applies.

17.

Misuse and Improper Use

Dextel Electrical & Security Services shall not be liable for any damage or loss of property or life arising from misuse, tampering, alteration, fair wear and tear or improper use of any item supplied or installed.

18.

Unsafe or Dangerous Conditions

Dextel Electrical & Security Services reserves the right to stop or postpone work completely if any unsafe or dangerous situations are discovered on the client's property. The client may be liable for costs incurred for works completed at the time of stoppage, costs to rectify the problem and any additional labour costs (at our sole discretion).

19.

Existing Installation Compliance

In accordance with WA EnergySafety regulations, if the existing switchboard or wiring is found to be dangerously non-compliant or unsafe during the works, Dextel Electrical & Security Services is legally required to make the circuit safe. The cost to rectify pre-existing non-compliant wiring or switchboard defects is not included in this quotation and will be charged separately.

20.

Adverse Weather

Dextel Electrical & Security Services reserves the right to postpone and rebook work if adverse weather conditions do not permit the work to be completed safely, at no additional cost to the client.

21.

Cancellation Before Commencement

Subject to clause 5, should the client cancel the engagement after acceptance of the quotation but before the job commences, the client agrees to be liable for any reasonable costs incurred by Dextel Electrical & Security Services up to the point of cancellation (including but not limited to restocking fees, non-recoverable freight charges, permit/approval costs, design and drafting expenses, and labour expenses).

22.

Warranty

Dextel Electrical & Security Services warrants its workmanship on each item of equipment it supplies and installs, including the cabling, connections, mounting and configuration for that item, for the same period as that item’s manufacturer’s warranty, and never for less than twelve (12) months or more than five (5) years from the date of completion of the works. This applies to all work, electrical and security. Workmanship on work that does not involve equipment we supply, such as fault finding, alterations to existing wiring, and installing items supplied by the client, is warranted for twelve (12) months from the date of completion. If any defect in workmanship becomes apparent and is reported to us in writing within this period, we will, at our sole discretion, remedy or replace the defective workmanship at no cost to the client.

For materials, parts, equipment or systems supplied and installed by Dextel Electrical & Security Services, we provide a 12-month on-site service warranty from the date of installation. During this period, if a defect becomes apparent and is reported in writing, we will, at our sole discretion and provided the defect is not due to misuse, tampering, alteration, fair wear and tear or external causes, either repair the item on-site (if repairable) or swap it with a comparable item at no additional cost to the client.

After the 12-month period. Any remaining manufacturer’s warranty on equipment we supplied is passed on to you, to the extent the manufacturer allows. If equipment we supplied develops a fault, contact us first. We will assess it and, where the manufacturer’s warranty or the Australian Consumer Law applies, arrange the repair or replacement and make the warranty claim with our supplier on your behalf. Labour, travel and attendance after the 12-month period are charged at our standard rate, and each attendance is charged separately, except for defects covered by our workmanship warranty above, or where the Australian Consumer Law requires the remedy to be provided at no cost to you.

What the warranty does not cover. Neither warranty covers faults caused by: misuse, accidental damage, or tampering or alteration by anyone other than us; fitting, programming or configuration by anyone other than us; power surges, power or internet outages, or the client’s modem, router or internet service; flat batteries and other consumables; firmware or software updates installed by anyone other than us; third-party monitoring services; weather, water entry, vermin or building movement; or fair wear and tear.

All warranty claims are tested before a replacement or credit is issued. Where a claimed item is tested and found not to be faulty, or the fault is caused by something listed above, a testing fee applies at our standard rates.

This warranty is provided in addition to, and does not limit or replace, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled to cancel your service contract with us and to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to choose a refund or replacement for major failures with goods. If a failure with the goods or a service does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done you are entitled to a refund for the goods and to cancel the contract for the service and obtain a refund of any unused portion. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the goods or service.

23.

Materials Not Supplied by Us

For materials not supplied by Dextel Electrical & Security Services, warranty is limited to that provided by the manufacturer, in addition to any non-excludable rights under the Australian Consumer Law. We do not install security alarm or CCTV equipment supplied by the client. Where the client supplies other fixtures or hardware, Dextel Electrical & Security Services accepts liability for installation labour only; any product failure, missing components, or manufacturer warranty claims will incur standard service rates for troubleshooting, removal, and reinstallation.

23A.

Repairs and Fault Finding

When we repair or service existing equipment, we fix the fault we were called out for. Our workmanship warranty (clause 22) covers that repair and any parts we supply, but not other parts of an older system that fail later.

Service work is not fixed-price quoted. Fault finding, repairs and servicing of existing equipment, electrical or security, cannot be quoted at a fixed price, because the time needed to find a fault cannot be known before the fault is found. This work is charged at our standard service rate, which comprises an attendance fee covering the first half hour on site, time charged in increments after that, and any materials used. We tell you the current rate before we attend, and it is also stated on your invoice. The same applies where a fault does not show while we are on site, or cannot be traced. Where the repair or replacement work that follows the diagnosis can be priced, we price it and get your approval before carrying it out. Fixed-price quotations under these terms apply to installation work.

“Standard rate”, “standard hourly rate” and “standard service rates” wherever used in these terms mean that rate. Rates may be reviewed from time to time; the rate current at the date of attendance applies, and we tell you the rate before we attend.

24.

Acceptance of Terms

By accepting this quotation, you agree to and accept the terms and conditions set out herein. These terms are subject to any non-excludable rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law or other applicable legislation.

25.

Governing Law

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Western Australia. The parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Western Australia.

26.

Entire Agreement

This quotation and these terms constitute the entire agreement between the parties and supersede any prior representations or agreements.

26A.

Photos of Our Work

We may photograph completed work for our records and to show examples of our work on our website and social media. We may name the suburb, but we do not publish your name or street address, and location data is removed from published photos. If you would rather we did not publish photos of your job, tell us at any time.

27.

Force Majeure

Dextel Electrical & Security Services shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform due to events beyond its reasonable control (including strikes, lockouts, pandemics, acts of God or government restrictions).

28.

Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that:

(a) we are not liable for loss or damage caused by events outside our reasonable control (clause 27), by the acts or omissions of anyone other than us (including an intruder, your monitoring company, or your power or internet provider), or by use of the system other than in line with these terms or our written instructions;

(b) our liability is reduced to the extent that you, or anyone other than us, caused or contributed to the loss or damage; and

(c) we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as loss of profits, income or business, or business interruption, except where the Australian Consumer Law requires it.

30.

Severability

If any provision of these terms and conditions is found by a court to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, that provision will be severed, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

31.

Notices

Any formal notice required under these terms must be given in writing and sent to the email address or postal address most recently provided by the relevant party. Notices are deemed received on the day of sending, unless the sender receives notification that delivery failed.

31A.

Resolving a Problem

If you believe there is a problem with our work, contact us first and give us a reasonable opportunity to inspect it and put it right. If someone else works on equipment or wiring we installed before we have had that opportunity, we are not liable for their costs, or for problems their work causes, except where the law gives you that right.

Part 2

29. Additional Terms for Security Systems

Dextel Electrical & Security Services supplies and installs security systems (including but not limited to intruder alarms, CCTV, access control, and associated equipment). The following additional terms apply to all security systems in addition to the general terms above:

29.1 Client Responsibilities. The client must at all times: (a) provide and maintain a stable and uninterrupted power supply and (where applicable) high-speed internet connection to the security system; (b) keep the system clear of obstructions, pets, dust, insects, and environmental factors that may trigger false alarms or affect performance; (c) not tamper with, modify, relocate, or attempt to repair the system without our prior written consent; and (d) notify us immediately in writing of any defect, damage, or malfunction. Failure to comply with these obligations may void the warranty and any service response.

29.2 False Alarms and Response Fees. The client is solely responsible for any fines, penalties, call-out fees, or charges imposed by police, monitoring companies, or other authorities arising from false alarms. Dextel Electrical & Security Services is not liable for any costs or losses resulting from false alarms caused by user error, improper maintenance, pets, environmental factors, or third-party services (including power or internet failures).

29.3 System Limitations and No Guarantee. Security systems reduce risk but cannot guarantee against intrusion, theft, loss or damage, and we do not promise that the system will detect or prevent every incident. We are not responsible for the loss caused by a break-in or other incident itself, unless the loss results from our failure to supply the goods or services in line with the consumer guarantees, for example a fault in our installation. Our prices are based on the equipment and work we supply, not on the value of what the system protects, so please keep your own insurance in place.

29.4 Privacy and Surveillance Compliance (CCTV and Recording Systems). The client is solely responsible for ensuring the security system (particularly any CCTV or recording components) complies with the Surveillance Devices Act 1998 (WA), the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and any other applicable privacy laws. This includes obtaining any required consents, displaying appropriate signage, and ensuring cameras do not capture areas outside the client's premises or private spaces where a reasonable expectation of privacy exists. Dextel Electrical & Security Services accepts no liability for any breach of privacy laws or related claims arising from the client's use or placement of the system. The client indemnifies us against claims arising from the client’s use of the system or its recordings in breach of those laws.

29.5 Monitoring Services (if applicable). We do not provide monitoring. Where we connect your system to a monitoring company of your choice, the monitoring service is provided by that company under its own agreement and fees, and you deal with it directly. Monitoring response times are not guaranteed and are subject to the policies of the third-party monitoring provider. The client acknowledges that monitoring services do not replace the need for adequate insurance and that we are not liable for any delays or failures by the monitoring provider.

29.6 Maintenance and Software/Firmware. We recommend an annual maintenance and testing service, available at additional cost. Batteries, consumables, and software or firmware updates are not covered by the 12-month on-site warranty. After the 12-month period, servicing, updates and repairs are charged at our standard rates, except where clause 22 or the Australian Consumer Law requires a repair or replacement at no cost to you.

29.7 Licensing. All security system installation work is carried out by a licensed security installer in accordance with Western Australian requirements. The client acknowledges that any advice or consultation provided is given under our security consultancy licence (where applicable).

29.8 Published Package Prices. Ajax alarm package and device prices published on our website are for a standard home in the Perth metropolitan area, with devices in range of the hub; commercial sites, wired Ajax Fibra systems, upgrades of existing alarms and properties needing extra range extenders or cabling are quoted separately. CCTV package prices published on our website are “from” prices for a standard residential installation: a single-storey home in the Perth metropolitan area, with a pitched roof giving clear access for cabling, and cameras mounted under the main roof line. The price for your property is confirmed in a written quotation, usually after a free site visit, and that quotation (not the published price) forms the agreement. Commercial sites, double-storey homes, steel-framed roofs, skillion or restricted roof spaces, and any work requiring a scissor lift or elevated work platform are always quoted separately and are not offered at published package prices.

29.9 Existing Equipment and Cabling. Where we connect new equipment to equipment or cabling already at the site that we did not supply or install, such as existing detectors, alarm cabling or cameras: (a) we test it when we connect it and tell you about any fault we find; (b) our workmanship in making the connection is covered under clause 22, but the existing equipment and cabling themselves are not covered by our warranty; (c) we cannot guarantee how long existing equipment will last, or that it will keep working with the new equipment after firmware or software updates by its manufacturer; and (d) faults in existing equipment or cabling, found during the work or later, are repaired or replaced at our standard rates, with your approval before we start.

This is separate from clause 23: equipment already installed at the site can be kept and connected, but we do not install alarm or CCTV equipment you buy and supply yourself.

29.10 Network Access. For a system that connects to the internet, you must provide a working internet connection, access to your router, and any network details we need, or put us in touch with your IT provider. Time lost because network access or details are not available when we need them is charged at our standard hourly rate.

29.11 Equipment You Choose. Before you accept, we explain what each proposed option can and cannot do, such as how much detail a camera captures at a distance, its image at night, or which areas are left without coverage. Where you choose a lower-cost option, or fewer devices than we recommend, the system is designed and priced to your choice, and upgrading it later is quoted as new work. This does not affect our obligation to carry out the work with due care and skill, or your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

29.12 Changes to the Site. If you renovate, add buildings, change the layout or lighting, plant or build something that blocks a camera’s view, or store goods where they block a detector, the system may no longer cover what it did when installed. Ask us to review it. A review and any changes it needs are charged at our standard rates.

29.13 Apps, Cloud Services and Smart Detection. Remote viewing, notifications, cloud storage and smart detection (such as person or vehicle detection) run on the manufacturer’s apps and servers and on your internet and phone. The manufacturer may change, charge for or withdraw these features after installation, and smart detection can miss events or send false alerts. We do not control the manufacturer’s platform. Help with changes made by the manufacturer after installation is charged at our standard rate. You are responsible for keeping your app logins and passwords private. This does not limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

29.14 Recorded Footage. Recorders keep footage for a limited time and then record over the oldest footage. If you need to keep a recording, for example for the police or your insurer, it is your responsibility to save or export it before it is overwritten. You decide who can view recordings and how long they are kept (see also clause 29.4). You authorise us to access recordings and system settings when needed to install, test or service the system.

29.15 Substitute Equipment. If an item in the quotation becomes unavailable or is discontinued before installation, we may offer a comparable alternative. We tell you about any difference in price or features before installing it, and you can accept it or ask us to wait for the original item.

By engaging Dextel Electrical & Security Services for any quotation, invoice or service, you agree to and accept the terms and conditions set out herein (including the additional terms for security systems where applicable).
