Electrical for retail, office and hospitality fit-outs: lighting, power, data rough-in, three-phase and the board work behind it, staged around a business that still has to trade.
Why It Matters
Most of what goes wrong in a fit-out is timing rather than technique. Power and data have to be roughed in before the linings go on. The lighting layout has to be settled before the ceiling grid is set. The distribution board work has to be understood before anyone commits to what the tenancy is going to run. Bringing an electrician in after the shopfitter has started almost always costs more than bringing one in alongside them. The work isn't harder; some of it just has to be undone first.
The other recurring issue is the board. A tenancy that has been refitted several times accumulates additions from every one of them, and the labelling nearly always describes an earlier layout rather than the current one. Establishing what is actually connected, and re-labelling it properly, is worth doing at the start of a fit-out: every later job and every isolation depends on it, and a wrong label is a hazard rather than an inconvenience.

Common Questions
At planning, not after the shopfitter has started. Rough-in has to happen before the linings go on and the lighting layout before the ceiling grid is set, so getting the sequence right is most of the cost control on a fit-out.
Yes, and it is usually the better way to do it. Most fit-out and lighting work in a trading premises is quicker and safer after hours, and we book it that way rather than closing a shop for a day.
Yes, more than people expect. In a tenancy refitted several times the labelling usually describes a layout that no longer exists, which makes every future job slower and every isolation a guess. A fit-out is the natural moment to identify and re-label the circuits properly.
Yes. EC12377 covers the electrical work and SA54405 the security work, and we are an Ajax Authorised Partner, so the lighting, power, alarm and cameras come from one contractor instead of three trying to book the same ceiling.
Part of the fit-out, and then six-monthly testing under AS/NZS 2293 afterwards. It is worth setting the testing up at handover rather than remembering it when an inspection asks.
Yes, and preferably from the start. The earlier the electrical sequence is agreed with whoever is running the build, the less of it has to be reworked.
