LED upgrades, warehouse high-bay, office and retail lighting, plus the six-monthly emergency and exit light testing under AS/NZS 2293 that an inspection asks for first.
Why It Matters
Lighting is usually the largest single electrical load in a commercial building, and unlike most loads it runs for every trading hour. That is what makes an LED upgrade pay back faster in a shop, a warehouse or an office than it ever does in a house, because the saving is multiplied by hours, not by the number of appliances. Older fluorescent and discharge fittings also lose output as they age, so the improvement in light level is often as noticeable as the drop in the bill.
The other half is not optional. Emergency and exit lighting has to be tested six-monthly under AS/NZS 2293 with the results logged, and it is one of the first things an inspection asks to see. Old discharge high-bays have a practical problem beyond running cost as well: they take minutes to restrike after a power interruption, so a brief outage means a dark warehouse for long enough to matter.

Common Questions
In a commercial building, usually, and it pays back faster than the same upgrade in a house because the lights run for every trading hour. Ageing fluorescent and discharge fittings also lose output over time, so the gain in light level is frequently as noticeable to staff and customers as the saving is to the bill.
Sometimes, and often it should not be. A like-for-like lamp change leaves the old control gear in place, and that is frequently the next thing to fail. We will tell you which of the two your fittings actually suit rather than defaulting to the cheaper answer.
Six-monthly testing under AS/NZS 2293, with the results logged. We test, log, and repair or replace whatever fails, in the same visit where the parts allow.
Yes, and for retail we would normally suggest it. Lighting work over a trading floor is disruptive and slower with customers in the building.
That is a characteristic of discharge lamps rather than a fault: they need to cool before they will restrike. LED high-bays come on instantly, which in a working warehouse is a safety improvement as much as a running-cost one.
Yes, including sensor and timer control. External lighting is also where specification matters most, because exposed fittings weather far faster than anything indoors.
