The Equipment We Actually Install

Dahua Cameras
& Recorders

This is the gear we actually put up under Perth eaves and wire back to the cupboard, not a catalogue of everything Dahua makes. Every camera here can give you colour after dark, not just infrared, and every recorder can tell a person from a passing car. Licensed under EC12377 / SA54405.

Colour Where It Counts, After Dark

A black-and-white infrared image tells you somebody was there. A colour image tells you they were wearing a red jacket and left in a white ute. That difference is what decides whether footage is worth anything to you or to the police, so every camera on this page can give you colour after dark, either by switching on a warm white light when it detects movement or by using whatever ambient light is around.

How the light behaves is your call. Set the way we normally leave them, these cameras sit in infrared and bring the warm light up only when something is detected. You get colour where it counts without lighting the place up from dusk to dawn. If you would rather the light stayed on all night, it can be set that way instead.

Colour When It Matters

A warm white light comes up the moment something moves, so the footage of the event itself is in colour rather than grey.

Knows People From Cars

SMD 4.0 classifies what triggered the alert, so a cat, a moth or a tree in the wind doesn't reach your phone.

Cameras That React

The deterrent models answer an intrusion with red and blue strobes, a siren and a voice warning, not just a recording.

Search In Seconds

AcuPick and Quick Pick let you search recorded footage for a person or a vehicle instead of scrubbing through hours of it.

Datasheets, Not Promises

Every camera and recorder here links Dahua's own datasheet. Check a number yourself rather than taking our word for it, and hold any other quote to the same test.

Set Up On Your Phone

Live view and playback through the DMSS app on iPhone or Android, configured and tested before we leave. With an Ajax alarm, your cameras sit alongside your alarm status.

What Goes On The Wall

Five cameras cover almost everything we are asked for. The first is the everyday workhorse and the second is the same camera in 4K; the next two add active deterrence, and the 8MP of that pair adds more detail at distance; the last one trades reach for width.

Our Standard Camera

6MP Smart Dual Light Turret

Dahua IPC-HDW3667EM-S-IL-ANZ

The camera that goes on most jobs. Colour footage at the moment something triggers it, alerts that tell a person from a passing car or a pet, and a weatherproof housing built for Perth sun and Perth dust. It records and it alerts. It doesn't talk back or sound a siren; the two models below do that. It is one of the cameras in our installed CCTV packages.

4K Upgrade

8MP 4K Smart Dual Light Turret

Dahua IPC-HDW3867EM-S-IL-ANZ

The 6MP Smart Dual Light with an 8MP readout instead. Same housing, same 2.8mm and 3.6mm lens options, same F1.4, same infrared and warm white lights to 30m. What you gain is 3840 × 2160 to zoom into when you go back through the recording. What you give up is a little low-light sensitivity: it works off the same size sensor, so the pixels are smaller and it needs slightly more light to hold a picture. It is the $90 a camera upgrade on our standard packages.

Active Deterrence

6MP Deterrent Camera

Dahua IPC-HDW3649H-AS-PV-PRO-ANZ

A camera that does something about it. It switches on a warm white light when it detects someone, so you get full-colour footage instead of black and white, and then adds a siren, flashing red and blue lights, and a speaker you can talk through from your phone. Its larger sensor and wider aperture also make it clearly better than the standard camera in poor light, before any of the lights come on. It is one of the cameras in our installed CCTV packages.

It is also the better of the two PRO cameras after dark. Spreading 6 megapixels across the same sensor as the 8MP model gives each pixel more light to work with, which is why this is the one we specify most often, not the higher-resolution one. What decides night footage, and what megapixels do not →

Most Detail

8MP 4K Deterrent Camera

Dahua IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-PRO-ANZ

The same camera as the one beside it: same features, same housing, same 1/1.8" sensor, but 4K instead of 6MP. The extra resolution is not about a sharper picture on your phone; it is about how far away a face or a number plate is still readable when you zoom into the recording afterwards. Worth it over a long driveway, a yard, or a car park approach, and not worth much up close. It is the $90 a camera upgrade on our TiOC PRO packages.

Dahua IPC-PDW31259-A180-AS-PV-ANZ-S2 12MP dual-lens 180 degree panoramic camera

One Camera, 180°

12MP Panoramic Duo

Dahua IPC-PDW31259-A180-AS-PV-ANZ-S2

Two lenses stitched into one wide image covering a full 180°: a building frontage, a driveway and the gate beside it, or a car park, on a single camera and a single cable where you would otherwise mount two. Same colour-on-detection night vision and active deterrence as the two deterrent cameras.

Mount it close to what it watches. The trade for that width is reach: it identifies a face at about 6m and recognises a person at about 12m, against 9–10m and 17–20m for the deterrent cameras above. It is a wide camera, not a long one.

These are the ones we fit most often, not the limit of what we can supply. Dahua's range goes much further: longer-range models, higher-resolution sensors, different housings and specialist types, and recorders beyond the three below. If your site needs something that isn't on this page, ask and we will quote it.

Which Camera, And Why

The numbers that actually change the decision. “Recognise a person” is the distance at which you could pick out someone you know; “identify a face” is the shorter distance at which a stranger's face is usable to identify them. Both come from Dahua's published figures for the longer lens option where there is a choice.

What Goes In The Cupboard

All three plug the cameras straight in. The camera ports are built into the recorder, so there is no separate network switch to buy, power or find room for. All three record up to 16MP per camera, output 4K to a TV or monitor, and do the smart searching on board.

Choosing Between Them

Why do all the Dahua cameras on this page have colour night vision?

Because colour is what makes footage useful. A black-and-white infrared image tells you someone was there. A colour image tells you they were wearing a red jacket and got into a white ute. Every camera on this page can give you colour after dark, either by switching on a warm white light or by using what ambient light there is. By default they sit in infrared the rest of the time, so the light is only on when something is actually happening. If you'd rather it stayed on all night, it can be set that way.

Do I need the 8MP camera, or is 6MP enough?

For most homes 6MP is enough. The two deterrent cameras are otherwise the same camera: same housing, same siren and strobes, same two-way audio, same smart detection including face detection. Resolution is the only thing that separates them, and it only matters over distance: the 8MP recognises a person out to about 20 metres and gives a face usable for identification to about 10 metres, against roughly 17 and 9 metres for the 6MP. Within about 10 metres of the camera the extra resolution buys you very little, and the 6MP is actually the better performer after dark, because the same sensor is shared between fewer, larger pixels. Over a long driveway, a yard or a car park approach, the 8MP is worth it. The best camera for night vision, explained →

What is the difference between the standard camera and the deterrent ones?

The standard camera records. The deterrent models also react, with red and blue strobes, a siren, and a speaker you can talk through from your phone. The standard camera has a microphone but no speaker, so it cannot do two-way talk or a voice warning. A common approach is deterrent cameras on the points where someone would actually approach the property, and standard cameras everywhere else.

How many cameras can one recorder take?

Four, eight or sixteen, depending on the model, and all three have the camera ports built in, so there is no separate network switch to buy or find space for. Channel count is not the only limit though. The 4-channel recorder handles 80 Mbps of video in total, which is comfortable for four 6MP cameras but starts to crowd if all four are 8MP running at high quality. We size the recorder to the cameras rather than to the count alone.

What size hard drive do I need?

It depends on how many cameras you have, what resolution they record at, and how far back you want to be able to look. Two to four weeks of footage is what most people ask for. We work the size out from your actual camera list rather than fitting a standard drive and hoping. The 16-channel recorder takes two drives rather than one, which is the option to reach for when you want to keep footage a long time.

Am I limited to the models on this page?

No. These are the ones we fit most often, chosen because they suit the majority of Perth homes and small commercial sites. Dahua's catalogue is much larger, and we can supply and install from the rest of it: longer-range cameras, higher-resolution sensors, different housings, larger recorders. Tell us what the site needs and we will quote the right thing for it rather than bending one of these four to fit.

Can I see the cameras on my phone?

Yes. All of these work with Dahua's DMSS app for live view and playback on iOS and Android, and we set that up and test it on your phone before we leave. If you also have an Ajax alarm, the cameras can be viewed alongside your alarm status in the Ajax app.
