Not every job is a retrofit. This Armadale job was a new installation: an Ajax alarm and a four-camera Dahua CCTV system, installed together.

Built around an elderly client

The client is elderly, so the alarm includes a panic button as well as a keyfob. The Ajax app and the Dahua app are set up on the client’s phone and on relatives’ phones too, so if the panic button is ever used, the family knows straight away. The same wiring up of other people’s phones is what makes a button worth fitting in a house where someone is away on a FIFO roster.

The alarm

The cameras

Four Dahua IPC-HDW3667EM-S-IL-ANZ cameras (6MP Smart Dual Light) on a 4-channel NVR. They are placed to give almost full coverage of the perimeter.

Hidden, and powered properly

The hub and the NVR are well hidden. There were no power points close to where they needed to go, so I installed new ones. As a licensed electrician as well as a security installer, that was part of the same job rather than a second trade to book.

The result

A new alarm with a panic button, cameras covering almost the whole perimeter, and the family linked in through the apps. Two days on site: about three hours on the alarm and five on the cameras.

Looking after an older parent?

An alarm with a panic button that alerts family is a practical option for someone living alone. WA Seniors Card holders may also be eligible for a rebate on alarms and CCTV: see the Perth security rebates guide. For the systems themselves, see Ajax alarm systems and CCTV installation.
