Most Perth homeowners have no idea they can claim money back on a CCTV installation, a new alarm system, an RCD upgrade, or a smoke alarm. Between local council programs and the WA State Government seniors rebate, there is real money available, and plenty of people never claim it because they do not know it exists.

New for business owners: the WA Government has opened a Small Business CCTV Rebate that pays 50% of a new internal CCTV system, up to $2,000, for retail and customer-facing businesses. The rules are in the WA small business CCTV rebate guide.

This post covers every current rebate program relevant to Perth residential and small business customers, what you can claim, and exactly how to apply. If you are weighing up whether to go ahead with a CCTV installation, these rebates can make a meaningful difference to the total cost. Our CCTV package prices are published, so you can work out the gap before you apply.

Rebate programs open and close through the year and funds are often limited. The amounts and availability below were checked in September 2026. Always check the relevant council or government page before you buy anything, because most programs require approval first.

One thing worth knowing up front: council schemes run on an annual budget and close when it is spent. The state Safety and Security Rebate is separate, is not tied to any council budget, and is open to WA Seniors Card holders all year. If your council scheme is closed or its funds are gone, that is the one to look at.

WA State Government: Seniors Safety and Security Rebate

This is the most broadly available rebate and the one most relevant to our clients. The WA State Government offers a rebate of up to $400 per household to holders of a Western Australian Seniors Card towards the purchase and installation of eligible home security and safety items.

Who is eligible: Any WA Seniors Card holder who owns or rents a residential property in Western Australia. Renters can claim but need landlord approval before installing anything.

What is covered:

Important licensing requirement: RCDs, mains-powered smoke alarms, and sensor lights must be installed by a licensed electrical contractor. CCTV, alarm systems, and video doorbells must be installed by a business holding a Security Agent Licence and a Security Installer Licence issued by WA Police. Dextel Electrical & Security Services holds both (Electrical Contractor Licence EC12377 and Security Licence SA54405), so all work we do qualifies for this rebate. If your home needs broader RCD coverage, our old fuse box guide explains what is involved.

Can you claim CCTV and RCD/smoke alarms in the same claim? Yes, and a lot of seniors do not realise it. The $400 is a total per household, not $400 per item. This means if you are having CCTV installed and an RCD or smoke alarm upgrade done on the same visit, you can claim up to $400 across all of it in a single application. You do not need to choose one or the other.

For example: a senior having a 4-camera CCTV system installed along with two mains smoke alarms can claim the full $400 rebate across the combined cost of both jobs. That is a useful saving on what would otherwise be two separate bills, and one reason to combine security and electrical work in a single visit where you can.

How to apply: Log in to your WA Seniors Card account at seniorscard.wa.gov.au, complete the online application, and attach your receipts and installation documentation. You can also apply in person at the WA Seniors Card Centre at 140 William Street, Perth, or call 1800 671 233.

Note: Ongoing monitoring subscription fees are not covered. The rebate applies to the purchase and installation cost only.

City of Wanneroo: CCTV Rebate Scheme

The City of Wanneroo offers a rebate of up to 30% of the cost of a new CCTV installation, to a maximum of $500. The 2025/26 scheme is currently open for pre-approval applications.

Important: pre-approval is required: You must apply for and receive a formal pre-approval letter before purchasing or installing your system. Applications submitted after installation will not be accepted.

Eligible applicants: Wanneroo residents, businesses, and community groups.

City of South Perth: Home Safety and Security Rebate

The City of South Perth runs a Home Safety and Security Equipment Rebate Program with two tiers:

Eligible items include CCTV, home alarms, gate alarms, deadlocks, window guards, roller shutters, security doors and screens, sensor lights, video doorbells, and meter box locks. Fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and subscription services are not covered.

How to apply: Visit southperth.wa.gov.au and search for Home Safety Rebate.

City of Cambridge: CCTV Subsidy Partnership Program

The City of Cambridge offers a CCTV Community Partnership Subsidy Program for residents who install CCTV with a public-facing camera angle. The program aims to increase community safety coverage across the suburb by building a network of privately-owned cameras that can assist police investigations.

Eligible suburbs: City of Cambridge area including Wembley, West Leederville, Floreat, City Beach, and Churchlands.

How to apply: Visit cambridge.wa.gov.au and search for CCTV Subsidy for current availability and amounts. The program opens and closes through the year based on available funding.

City of Kwinana: Cam-Map Registration Rebate

The City of Kwinana does it differently. Rather than rebating new CCTV installations, it offers a $50 rebate for registering an existing CCTV system with Cam-Map WA, the WA Police secure database of voluntarily registered CCTV locations.

Cam-Map WA allows businesses and homeowners to register the location of their cameras so WA Police can quickly identify nearby footage sources during investigations. The $50 rebate is an incentive to register.

How to register: Visit kwinana.wa.gov.au for current rebate status, and register your CCTV at the WA Police Cam-Map portal.

Tip for any Perth CCTV owner: Registering with Cam-Map WA is worth doing regardless of rebates. It costs nothing, takes five minutes, and means police investigating a nearby incident can contact you directly rather than not knowing your cameras exist.

How to Make the Most of These Rebates

A few practical points worth knowing before you start:

Pre-approval first, always. Most council programs require you to apply and receive approval before purchasing or installing anything. If you install first and apply after, the application will be rejected. Check the specific program requirements before you spend anything.

Funds are limited. Most programs operate until the annual budget is exhausted. The City of Wanneroo 2025/26 scheme is already open but will close when funds run out, which can happen well before the stated closing date. Early in the financial year is the best time to apply. If the money has run out, the state seniors rebate still stands on its own.

Stack rebates where eligible. In some cases you may be eligible for both a council rebate and the state government seniors rebate on the same installation. The City of South Perth program explicitly notes it is designed to complement, not duplicate, the state government program, which suggests you may be able to claim both. Check the specific terms for each program.

Licensed installer requirement. Both the state government seniors rebate and most council programs require installation by a licensed security installer and/or licensed electrician. DIY installation either disqualifies the claim entirely or reduces the rebate percentage, which is the part most people miss when they price a kit against an install: see is a DIY security system worth it. Dextel holds all the required licences, EC12377 (electrical contractor) and SA54405 (security agent), and provides the documentation you need to support your rebate application.

A tax invoice alone is not enough proof of payment. The WA Seniors Card rebate application is specific on this point. It requires a receipt showing the item has been paid in full, not just a tax invoice showing an amount owing. When we do a rebate-eligible job, we issue a paid tax invoice together with a remittance confirming full payment, so you have exactly what the WA Seniors Card Centre asks for when you lodge your claim. Worth checking this detail with your council if you are applying to a local program instead, as some have the same requirement.

Other councils. The programs above are the most active in the Perth metro area as of mid-2025, but other councils including Canning, Gosnells, Victoria Park, Bassendean and Mandurah have offered programs in the past. Check your own council website for current availability: search for "security rebate" or "CCTV rebate" on your council homepage.

If you are planning a CCTV install or security upgrade and want to know which rebates apply to your address, give us a call before you start. We can confirm eligibility, help you prepare the documentation, and ensure the installation meets the technical requirements that councils specify for approved systems. See our full electrical services and security systems for everything we can help with.

The cameras and recorders a rebate would go towards are listed with full specifications on our equipment page.

Not sure which equipment is worth claiming towards? What the burglary figures say and what each part of an alarm and CCTV system does explains it.
