The old Ness alarm panel in this North Perth home had died.

What was already there

The house was wired with several dual vibration-reed sensors, which combine a reed switch that trips when a door or window opens with a vibration sensor that picks up the frame or glass being hit, plus PIR motion detectors. All of them ran back to the Ness panel.

Why not a new Ness panel?

Upgrading to a modern wired Ness panel was an option, but it was too expensive.

What I did

The new system is built around an Ajax Hub 2 Plus, with an Ajax MultiTransmitter connecting the old wired sensors to it. Every existing sensor that could be reused was kept.

The result

A working alarm again, run from the Ajax app, without rewiring the house. It took two visits of about four hours each. I had another commitment that week, so it could not all be done in one day.

Has your old alarm panel died?

A dead panel does not always mean a whole new system. If the sensors and wiring are sound, they can often be kept. I will check them on site and tell you plainly whether a retrofit makes sense. See retrofitting an old wired alarm panel to Ajax, a similar commercial retrofit in Bibra Lake, or the Ajax alarm systems page.
